2007 POT OF GOLD RELAY

47 mile relay race: running from Hull to Lincoln 20th July, 2007

In aid of BBC Radio Lincolnshire Pot of Gold Appeal and Project Cornerstone

Report by John Houtby

We left Lincoln at 5:30am to pick everyone up, arriving at BBC Radio Humberside at 7:00am. I was interviewed by Radio Humberside’s Andy Comfort and then taken into another studio for an interview with Radio Lincolnshire’s Rod Whiting, who kindly wished us all the best for the run. We all set off at 7:30am, a happy band of seven runners, aiming to raise money for our two nominated charities, and also to give a good account of Lakeside Lincoln Running Club across the villages of northern Lincolnshire.

We ran as a group to the outskirts of Hull, from where we ran in pairs. We proceeded over the Humber Bridge to Barton on Humber, taking in brilliant views on the bridge in perfect weather! The route from Barton to Brigg involved many tough hills; through Brigg we regrouped, all seven of us running together again until we passed through the town. Back in pairs we continued to Redbourne and Waddingham, then to Glentham, where we crossed the A631 heading to Welton.

We were met by our great lady runners at Welton from where we ran south along Nettleham Road and past the Brown Cow Pub, onto Broadway and up Newport where we then finished in triumph at BBC Radio Lincolnshire; here we happily took in drinks, a photo call, and an interview by Andrew David.

We covered 47 miles in 6 hours 43 minutes, a superb effort by all. We used a mini-bus sponsored by the Club, driven by Denis Fox; thanks to Dave Bussy for his help at Radio Lincolnshire, Martin Daniles and Rod Whiting for the interviews. We raised an excellent £1100 for our two nominated charities, again, many thanks to all who helped!
